Happy springtime everyone — its been a while — our spring here feels slow again, and we are planting planting and preparing for the season ahead. already 3 rounds of lettuce and turnips have emerged and tomatoes and cucumbers are ready to transplant into the ground this week. We are looking forward to seeing you again at the Silverton Farmers market and here on the farm - with some shifts and changes and new offerings, we’ll start sharing more, I promise 🙃 1) zucchini starts ready to plant out, 2) @hannahkathrynkullberg daffodil bouquet 3) + 4) friends, 5) mowing down cover crops to prepare beds for veggies, 6) our goats found new pastures to graze and browse down the street (yay!), 7) a snapshot of one propagation area - baby plants everywhere - the constant beautiful shuffle.

I wouldn’t say July is bringing abundance yet (except for weeds!) but there’s certainly sweetness and beauty and so much to celebrate. The first of the tomatoes, last of this round of carrots, beginnings of processing an amazing garlic crop, and enough damaged cabbage that we’ll likely be making kraut this weekend. Hope to see you at Silverton Market tomorrow 9:00 - 1:00! We’ll have delicious carrots, baby conical cabbage, kale, lots of beautiful summer squash, and amazing cucumbers.

Moles and voles and gophers have been a huge issue this year - here we have some lovely rainbow carrots for our CSA and farmers market @silvertonfarmersmarket - I’d love for them to size up another week or two, but I hate to loose more to the rodents… What would you do? Such a time of explosive growth and beautiful long days. We are picking our way through tomato and cucumber trellising, trying to keep up with weeding, setting up a new irrigation system on the main field, while the potatoes and winter squash are mostly planted and many more beds to prep for onions and next rounds of carrots and and greens.

I’ve received so much amazing support from friends this week - from hauling my tiny house to the farm, to planting out more cabbage and broccoli, as well as the first row of mixed culinary and tea herbs and cut flowers, to sharing delicious meals and even doing some of my long neglected landry! Heart is feeling quite full. It’s going to be a dynamic week, and hope we can fully prepare for the change in season.

While they aren’t yet a part of the Olde Moon Farm operations, goats have been a part of my life for as long as I’ve been involved in growing food, since 2007. Milking goats and sheep at @zephyrosfarmandgarden was an important part of healing my body and mind after a climbing accident, proving to be much more than just physical therapy. Stepping into managing Olde Moon, part of me has been uncertain what role these beings should have in my life moving forward. It can be so much work and expense to steward them. However, movements like these, though, are so dear to me and today I’m still a bit teary with gratitude for all they bring to my life. 1) movie of the little long eared girl and short eared boy. 2) so many cuddles. A heat lamp midnight moment. 3) these guys came earlier than expected and were born out in the field. A dear friend said Momma Francis didn’t want to worry me, and I think that’s probably true. I can be a bit overprotective, trying to make sure the moms are in the barn and i am present for the births. 4) the poppa Oatmeal. 5) other things about to sprout. First rounds of greens and onions.

With seeds for the season ahead on their way in the mail now, and the sun breaking out, I can feel the proximity of spring, and that great upwelling of sun’s energy that will carry us forward into the next cycle of activity and growth. For now though, there’s one more kabocha to eat, spreadsheets to pour over, barns to muck, and books to read before bed. Thank you all for making life so rich.
